Job Description:
The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC), a large
publicly-owned wastewater treatment facility located in Newark, New
Jersey, is currently seeking a Maintenance Scheduler / Planner.
Created in 1902, PVSC is the 5th largest facility of its kind in
the United States, directly serving approximately 1.5 million
residents in 48 municipalities located in Bergen, Essex, Hudson,
Passaic and Union Counties. The 140-acre plant is designed to treat
an average of 330 million gallons per day ('mgd") of wastewater
with an annual average flow of approximately 241 mgd.

Position Summary: The Maintenance Scheduler/Planner is responsible
for ensuring the effective execution of all maintenance work
control processes, including improving workforce effectiveness and
eliminating the potential for delays and obstacles, through the
proper planning and coordination of parts, equipment, personnel and
contractors. Will manage work priority, develop job plans, define
parts and materials, define crafts and skills, and engage the
proper resources to develop a safe, effective and efficient work
control plan that meets quality and scheduled targets. Will also be
responsible for providing equipment related expertise and technical
guidance on improving preventive maintenance activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must have knowledge of Computerized
Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) along with modern maintenance
principles and techniques. Must have the ability to monitor and
prioritize work order status as well as review operating procedures
and job plans based on the operating manual, generic maintenance
strategies, and historical records. Must be able to maintain the
interconnection of all on-going projects from beginning to end by
providing technical expertise, planning and maintenance related
feedback, as well as assign and check necessary permits, personnel,
support and safety equipment required for all maintenance work,
ensuring that assigned personnel possess the required
certifications. Solid written and verbal communication skills are
necessary along with strong computer skills. Must be able to learn
and apply new technologies as well as perform effectively in a
multitasking environment.
Experience and Education: A High School Diploma is required along
with a minimum of 5-10 years of relevant industry experience.
Additional education and certifications are preferred.
License and/or Certifications: Completion of the OSHA Ten (10) Hour
General Industry Safety and Health Training. Must possess a valid
New Jersey driver's license.
Physical Demands: Ability to perform the essential functions of the
position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the
health and safety of oneself and others are maintained. Must
qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined
spaces while wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks as well as
SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus). Perform physical
activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs and the
whole body, such as climbing (including ladders), lifting up to 50
lbs., balancing, walking, stooping and handling heavy objects.
Working Conditions: General office environment. External conditions
are associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer
collection system.
