Job Description:
Position Summary The VP Environmental Compliance role exists to
lead the strategy, development, execution, and management of
programs, policies, and procedures with the goal to achieve 100%
compliance with applicable existing and upcoming environmental laws
and regulations for all Penske Transportation Solutions operations.
The main responsibilities of this position will be to build and
continually develop a team of environmental professionals to
develop and execute environmental compliance programs, policies,
procedures and processes; build repeatable, reliable and scalable
policies, programs, procedures and processes ensuring QA/QC and
continuous improvement and integrating with business processes;
developing strong and collaborative relationships with leadership
at the internal and external departments level, and with
providers/partners/vendors and regulators; select and implement an
enterprise environmental information management system to manage
the policies, programs, procedures and processes ensuring
visibility and accountability with the goal of achieving 100%
compliance and embedding environmental compliance into the culture
of the organization. Optimally qualified candidates for this role
will have 15 years in environmental experience for a large,
multi-site organization; at least 7 number of years of demonstrated
experience leading teams. Extensive experience and complete grasp
of air, water, waste, and storage tank laws and regulations with a
proven track record of embedding compliance requirements into
scalable programs is also required. This position will be based out
of our corporate offices in Reading, PA. Responsibilities: •
Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the strategic vision for
the environmental function, aligning with the company's goals and
objectives. This will result in repeatable, reliable, documented
and scalable policies, programs, procedures and processes ensuring
QA/QC, continuous improvement, and accountability, with the goal of
achieving 100% compliance. • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop strong
and collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders,
external partners, vendors, providers, and regulators. The expected
result will be environmental compliance programs embedded in our
business processes and influencing of existing and upcoming
environmental laws and regulations. Collaboration across
organizational sustainability teams. • Team Management: Build and
lead a team with the requisite knowledge, experience, and skills
and be accountable for environmental compliance. • Regulatory
Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal
environmental regulations. Stay updated on regulatory changes and
implement necessary adjustments. • Risk Management: Lead the
selection, implementation and continual improvement of an
environmental information management system to manage the policies,
programs, procedures and processes with connections to other PTS
systems as needed. Identify and mitigate environmental risks
associated with the company's operations. This will result in
visibility and accountability through metrics and QA/QC processes
and contribute to the goal of achieving 100% compliance. •
Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on the company's
environmental performance to the executive team and board of
directors. • Other projects as assigned Qualifications: •
Bachelor's degree or other degree programs associated with
environmental areas (e.g. Environmental Science, Civil or Petroleum
Engineering, EHS, etc...) required. Experience in the environmental
field can be substituted for a preferred degree program. •
Certifications in the following areas are preferred: Professional
Engineer; Certified Environmental Professional; Certified Hazardous
Materials Manager; Registered Environmental Manager. • 15 of years
of experience with environmental program management and improvement
specifically around storage tanks, regulated and hazardous waste,
air, and water regulations and management required. • At least 5
years of specific experience with underground storage tank
management and compliance, implementation of environmental
information management systems; development and continual
improvement of environmental compliance programs preferred. • At
least 7 years of progressive team leadership, optimally including a
workforce across multiple sites and/or geographies. • Must have
advanced knowledge of environmental compliance related laws and
regulations, environmental program management, and how to apply and
embed compliance requirements into business processes. • Must be
able to navigate complex environmental compliance requirements,
educate and influence to build consensus. • Demonstrated knowledge
of how to apply technology to environmental compliance solutions
preferred. • Must be able to develop & execute on environmental
based strategies. • Ability to relate and communicate complex
environmental regulatory requirements to the audience as required.
Executive presence & presentation skills required, including
company leadership and officers and external responsible
authorities • Ability to motivate and inspire teams required. •
Should have strong Engineering / Analytical / Mathematical skills.
• Must be decisive and motivated. Works with a sense of urgency. •
Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of
the job. • Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required
schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske
